DIY Tin Can & Wood – Bee Decoration
Today’s post is about a bee I created out of a few tin Dr Pepper cans and some scrap wood. Forth of July was over and my mantel was all decked out in red, white and blue. I needed to change my mantle decor but Fall was still a little ways off. I wanted something that is still summery, yet would lead into the fall theme. My first thought was sunflowers of course, but I didn’t really like the idea of sunflowers being the main theme. I have a little sign that I purchased at Hobby Lobby that simply says “be kind” and then came the “Ah Ha!!! Moment”. Bee’s…

DIY Desk Decor
Today’s post is about my DIY desk decor. Doesn’t it feel good to get your own personal desk at your workplace? I started my first post-graduate job back in June. When I first got hired, I thought I was going to be sharing a desk with my colleagues since I work at home, in my community and at the office. On my first day, I was surprised with my very own desk! I got so excited so I went to Target and Michael’s after I got off of work on my first day to start looking for inspiration. The first item I found was an open terrarium at Target. Michele…

MÖLKKY (Finnish Lawn Game)
Today we are posting about the game Mölkky (a Finnish Lawn Game) that we made out of an old tree. If you follow our posts, you may have seen the amazing corn hole game my son’s father-in-law so thoughtfully made for us. We are so grateful, and knowing that he really enjoys corn hole, we wanted to create an outdoor game for him in return. At first, we were going to make a set of “Giant Jenga Blocks” but Sarah (his daughter) said they already have a Jenga game. While searching for a game we could make, I ran across Mölkky and thought it sounded perfect! Mölkky is a Finnish…

Giant Lawn Dice Game
Today’s post is about our giant lawn dice game we made ourselves. The set in our video is a bit sentimental to me because it was among our very first DIY wood projects. It is also sentimental because we made it for Tori and Javi’s wedding. Please excuse all the imperfections you may notice in the spacing of the dots on the dice. This project would have been amazingly simple if we owned a drill press, #GOALS! We made our dice from a 4×4 post. Supplies & Tools Saw Electric drill 1/2 inch drill bit Sander Black paint 4×4 post 4×4 posts actually only measure 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.…

DIY Pizza Pan Rack
Today is about the DIY pizza pan rack we created out of scraps of wood we found in our workshop. Years ago, my kids bought me a small wood fire pizza oven that makes the pizza taste amazing!! We were hosting a surprise birthday party for my daughter-in-law, Janae and decided we would make “build your own” pizzas. We really wanted to host a “build your own style” party but space was a big issue. I had to fit 10 pans of pizza dough, toppings, sauces, and cheeses all on my counter. I searched around the internet before the party to see if I could purchase a small pizza pan…

DIY Giant Jenga Game
Today we are going to share our DIY giant Jenga game. We actually made this Jenga game four years ago because Tori wanted giant outdoor games for her wedding reception. Originally we left the wood raw. When we decided to do a video showing how we made the Jenga we decided to add stain and make a designated table for the game. Tools & Supplies ( For Jenga) Saw Orbit sander or sandpaper (we used 220 grit) Measuring tape 5 – 2″x 3″ x 8′ studs (cut & sand 48 @ 7 5/8″ each) A stain of choice (we used three different colors) Gloves Old rags for staining Click the…

DIY Cement Table Top
Today’s post is about our DIY cement table top project. In a previous post, we revealed our kitchen table transformation of a table we got free off of craigslist. This is the transformation of our very, VERY old kitchen table. There is not enough room inside our house to use the old table. Our grown kids liked the table because all eight of us fit around it. The table is very ugly but it is also very sturdy. We decided it would be a fun project to transform it into an outdoor table. The table is made of wood and I knew just one winter would destroy the table as…

DIY Vertical Donut Bar
Today we are going to share how we made our very own DIY vertical donut bar. How many of you know someone who has a love affair with donuts? That person who would travel far distances because someone mentioned a donut that they deemed scrumptious. People love this holy confection so much that it is becoming a popular dessert for weddings and birthdays alike. We recently hosted a graduation party and having a donut bar was one of the requested food stations. So we created our vertical donut bar and now we are going to share it with you. We created two 24″ long stands instead of one 4 foot…

Layered Crepe Cake -Fourth of July Themed
Today’s post we are featuring a Fourth of July themed layered crepe cake. I would describe this cake as fresh, light and just the right amount of sweetness. To make the crepes we used a vintage Sunbeam electric M’sieur Crepe Maker. You can still find them places like Etsy, Offer-Up, eBay or Craigslist. “Cucina” makes a crepe maker that work identically to the one we used and you can purchase it here on Amazon. These electric crepe makers make the crepe making process super simple. you simply dip the pan in the batter and the heated pan cooks the crepe. It slides off the non-stick pan with ease. Click the…

How to Make Corn Hole Boards — DIY Project
The cornhole game has brought many hours of joy and entertainment to our lives on a weekly basis. This is our favorite game to play as a family and the game truly never gets old! My dad has become the cornhole guru in our family so he is the guest creator on Stunning Misadventures this week! He was patient enough to let us film his creation and even allowed my husband and me to jump in and help out with the woodworking and painting process. Over the last few years, my dad has made a total of 12 sets of cornhole boards! This is not just a one time project…

DIY Tree Stump Planter
Today’s post is about our DIY tree stump planter we made in the stump of our 80-year-old fallen oak tree. The tree was huge!! The original oak covered about ¼-⅓ of our quarter acre lot with it’s branches. It really was an awesome tree. After it split, it was dangerous so we had no choice but to take it down. We decided to leave the stump a little taller than normal and use it in some creative way. In 2015, we made the stump into a table with an umbrella. After four years of exposure to the elements, the table top warped and the tree had started to rot. So…

DIY Rustic Wood Privacy Screen Fence
I am so happy to share our DIY rustic wood privacy screen fence with you today. About five years ago, a massive oak tree in our backyard split during a storm. Let me tell you, this was no small oak tree! We live on a quarter acre lot and this oak tree shaded about one-third of our backyard. Our Fallen Oak Tree Due to the way, the tree split we were forced to cut the entire tree down. If left there was a risk of it falling on our home. Cutting Down Our Oak Tree After cutting the tree down we ended up with a massive pile of wood rounds.…

DIY Farm Style Dining Furniture Transformation
Today we are posting about our DIY farm style furniture transformation. I have always loved farm style decorations. In the 1990s, it was called country style. Even back then, buffalo plaid, galvanized metal and chippy wood furniture was a thing. I have to admit, I did go through a modern decorating phase in the early 2,000’s when Crate & Barrel’s CB2 was really popular. All the decor had a very funky almost 1960 hippy look to it. I truly think it appealed to my spontaneous wild side. During this phase of my life, we purchased a very sturdy kitchen table with rolling cane back chairs that we still own. The…

DIY Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Today’s post is about DIY Mother’s day gift ideas. As a mother, some of the most meaningful gifts I have ever received were the ones made by my children. Through the years, I have recieved many store bought gifts from my children (and I loved those gifts). The only thing is, now years later I can’t recall very many of those gifts. On the other hand, if you held up one of my cherished gifts handcrafted by one of my kids, I could tell you exactly who made it. Not only that, every time I reminisce about these DIY gifts I revisit the love I felt when receiving them. Now…

DIY Front Porch Sign
Today our post is about a simple DIY front porch sign we made out of old fence boards. We love recycling fence boards into farmhouse decor. While shopping at Hobby Lobby we found these darling large metal letters. Immediately we knew we wanted to make something with them. We were already talking about painting a “HOME” sign for the front porch. The letters were so cute, we loved the font and they were a perfect size so we picked up the letters H, M, and E. The pre-made letters made our “HOME” sign a very easy build. Supplies and Tools: (2) aged fence boards cut to 5 feet (2) 1′…

DIY Monitor Cover
Today’s post is a DIY Monitor Cover. Monitor screens can honestly become the hiding place of a massive web of wires. At one point in time, we had three game systems all hooked up to one monitor and let me tell you there were wires everywhere!!! Thankfully, we have downgraded to only one gaming system. Even with only one system there are still wires and stuff to hide. We have created two different styles of monitor covers that we are going to share with you today. The first one has a vertical sliding front panel so it can be mounted in a small space. The second one has two panels…

Easter is a day to celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and all that it means. It has also become a very fun time for kids. Dying Easter eggs, Easter egg hunts and of course opening Easter baskets. Mom, Tori and I, headed off to the Dollar Store on an Easter Basket Goodie Hunt! Easter Themed Cross and Crown Sign
Today, we are posting our Easter themed cross and crown wood sign. Who doesn’t love decorations that can be used for more than one holiday? This sign can double as a Valentine’s Decoration and an Easter Decoration. We used some metal crosses that we found at Hobby Lobby as the X’s and some rusty barbed wire to create Jesus’ crown of thorns as the O’s. Then we added the words “Oh, How He Loves Us”. We put together a short video on our YouTube channel and a list of supplies below. We would love for you to watch and tell us what you think. Supplies: 1″ X 6″ X 24″…

DIY Wire Bunny Wood Plaque
Today, we are making a “DIY Wire Bunny Wood Plaque”. I have to be honest we saw this bunny on Pinterest so it is not an original idea. We only saw a picture of it without a tutorial of how it was made so we decided to video our attempt of making it. We decided not to make an exact replica but instead tweaked it to match our style. Later, after creating the video we found the original blog with a picture tutorial. Find the original piece here. I will say the wire was a bit tricky to weave in a whimsical fashion but with a little persistence, we finally…

Organize with Us! HOW TO BUILD SHED STORAGE
Today, we are going to share our small shed organization project. How many of you have a cluttered storage area? Kind of a catch-all, for all those items that you need to keep, but they don’t have a specific spot of their very own. We don’t have a garage so that spot is our tiny 10.5′ x 7′ Rubbermaid Storage Shed. Inside, we store most of our summer outdoor coverings like umbrellas and UV sun shades. We also store our gardening and irrigation supplies and other outdoorsy stuff. The shed is so small that things always seem to end up getting shoved in there in a hurry, landing in a…

Industrial Farm Style Open Closet
One of our most recent projects is the construction of an industrial farm style open closet. We live in a small 1,247 square foot, ranch style home and storage space is precious and limited. A few years back, my sweet husband forfeited his closet to make room for a master bath remodel. For years, he has been sharing closet space with our youngest son and he had a small butler (suit stand) in our room. Over time his dress clothes found very interesting places to land in our bedroom. For example, I would find suits draped over a poster of our bed or hanging from a drawer pull on my…

Homemade “Three Alarm” Mac-n-cheese
Who doesn’t love homemade mac-n-cheese? Then add some spicy jalapeños, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes and you have the perfect blend of spicy cheesy goodness!! This is where the “three-alarm” comes from. A few years ago while making a roux for homemade au gratin potatoes, I had an epiphany! The cheesy goodness of a sauce would also make an amazing homemade mac-n-cheese sauce. So, I tried it…adjusted…tried again and adjusted it again. This went on for a time until at last, satisfaction!!! Thus, begot my very own homemade three-alarm mac-n-cheese recipe. The recipe actually keeps evolving! In the beginning, I only added Jalapeños but decided I liked the taste…

DIY Fence Board Scrap Sign
To start off, fence boards are an amazing DIY wood resource! Whether whole or just scraps, repurposing fence boards seems limitless. My friend asked me to make a sign with a quote she liked. She was planning on hanging the sign outdoors in her hot tub area, therefore, fence board was a perfect choice of wood. Check out our YouTube video below to watch me make the sign. Michele

Repurposing shipping crates….Oh, the possibilities! They come in all shapes and sizes and you can get them for free!If you are lucky, you will find one loaded with cool hardware already attached! How To Easily Age Metal
Aged Jingle Bell Aged Metal… Old milk cans with a ding here and there… Galvanized buckets that someone in your family used years ago and it has now oxidized after being exposed to elements… Rusty keys found in your grandmother’s old cedar chest… These items are not only family heirlooms but they seem to give a feeling of a much simpler time. There is such a “kick your shoes off and relax” kind of feeling in a home that has been tastefully decorated with touches of the past. I think that is why I love distressed furniture and rustic decor. I would love to have all of my decorative touches…

Pantry Organization
When we first bought our home, I really wanted a pantry but the home did not come with one. I love to have a supply of staple foods on hand at all times such as different types of rice, beans, sugar, flour, grains and the different foods we eat on a regular basis so I am not required to run to the grocery store every time I want to cook or bake. When we first moved in, we converted a large deep cabinet into a pantry in our garage. Because the shelves were so deep in the cabinet, the items would eventually pile up and go to waste. One day…

Tori’s Soft & Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
The perfect, moist chewy chocolate chip cookie! These cookies have been named Tori’s Cookies because that is what all of our friend’s and family know them as. I turned this recipe over to Tori as a young teenager. I don’t think I have actually made this dough in over 10-12 years because she has made them. She has made them for almost every get together, birthday, holiday or special occasion ever since. Family and friends search out her chocolate chip cookies at potlucks. A few years back, I was tired of always trying to make chocolate chip cookies and they never came out the same; every time it was…
