DIY Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Today’s post is about DIY Mother’s day gift ideas.

As a mother, some of the most meaningful gifts I have ever received were the ones made by my children.

Through the years, I have recieved many store bought gifts from my children (and I loved those gifts). The only thing is, now years later I can’t recall very many of those gifts.

On the other hand, if you held up one of my cherished gifts handcrafted by one of my kids, I could tell you exactly who made it. Not only that, every time I reminisce about these DIY gifts I revisit the love I felt when receiving them. Now that is priceless!!

We are going to showcase some easy DIY gifts that anyone can put together to show your mom how much you love her. The first four gift ideas all have a lavender theme so they can easily be put together in a gift basket.

Lavender Lotion Bars

Mom’s are always working with their hands. This Mother’s Day give your mom’s hands a little reprieve with these DIY Lavender Lotion Bars. All you need is:

Large Batch

  • 3/4 cup beeswax
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil
  • 2-4 tsp. dried lavender
  • 3-6 drops lavender essential oil
  • Silicone ice cube tray

Small Batch

  • 2 Tbsp. beeswax
  • 1/4 cup of coconut oil
  • a few drops of vitamin E oil
  • 1-2 tsp. dried lavender
  • 1-3 drops lavender essential oil
  • Silicone ice cube tray

Directions:
You will be melting these ingredients together. There are different methods that can be used.
1) a double boiler
2) a metal bowl over a small saucepan filled with water.
3) a small crockpot
4) a small hot glue melting pot (this is what we used for a small batch)

Step 1:

Cut, grate or shave off the required amount of beeswax and add it to your heat source to begin melting, stir with a plastic spoon or wooden popsicle stick till melted. Just remember whatever you use to cut it will be a bit difficult to clean. Beeswax is very hard to cut and sticky. We used a cheap steak knife dipped in boiling water to help melt the wax as we cut into it.

Step 2:

Add coconut oil, stir till melted

Step 3:

Add vitamin E oil, lavender essential oil, and dried lavender to melted ingredients and stir.

Step 4:

Spoon lotion into molds and chill in refrigerator approx. 2-3 hours till completely cooled

Step 5:

Pop lotion bars out of molds and place in a cute package or container ready to gift.
